Blog > A Postcrossing quilt!

Annett (aka knetty) from Germany joined Postcrossing about a year ago. A fan of crafts, she had the idea to invite members to send her pieces of fabric with their postcards, so that one day she could make a quilt with all the fabrics. Slowly, she started receiving colorful pieces of cloth from other sewing enthusiasts all over the world and putting them together on a single quilt.

Fifteen fabrics from 11 countries (and a lot of work) later and she is done… oh, it is a beauty!

Annett's Postcrossing quilt!

The patchwork resembles postcards laid out on a blanket — and on the border, Annett stitched the names and countries of the postcrossers who contributed to her project!

When the quilt was finished, she went out to photograph it in the sun and met her postman, who agreed to let her photograph it on the bike used to bring the pieces to her!

We’re in awe of Annett’s skills and this lovely idea, which she carefully documented on her blog. And she’s already planning a second one… :)

Do you know of any other crafty projects using postcards or Postcrossing? Do share!

Hello... I'm so overwhelmed by all your lovely comments. Thank you!!!!
I know 2 other postcrossing projects:

- Forestchapel80 from NL: collected crocheted granny squares in 2014... in 2015 now she is going to join 313 granny squares to make a blanket (check out her fotostream on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/115170376@N06/)

- Bibiche from France has a quiltproject too (I think we started at the same time)... She has now fabrics from 49 postcrossers and is sharing the process of quiltmaking on her lovely blog: http://busybeefree.blogspot.fr

Kind regards, HAPPY POSTCROSSING
Annett

In answer to your question, "Do you know of any other crafty projects..." : I often re-purpose cards I have received, to make greeting cards and other ways they can be re-enjoyed by another audience. I may cut them to repurpose them, or leave them whole...sometimes the stamps become something new...usually the projects are paper-based.

Over the last year, I've asked Postcrossers to send me cards of dogs or to draw me a dog on the back of the card and to tell me any dog stories they might have - favorite dog, etc.
As expected, everyone was super sweet and generous and some even included actual photos of their dogs in addition to the Postcrossing postcard.

I did this because my then 2-year-old daughter, now almost 3-years-old, absolutely loves dogs. The year is now coming to an end and I'll be making a book out of all the postcards we've received with a dog theme and will have it printed up as a memento for her 3rd birthday :o)

Love the quilt!

And I recently received a card from Rachel in UK who makes pictures with stamps! Her profile is https://www.postcrossing.com/user/Stampcollage and there's a link to her site where you can see some of her works. It's amazing.

middlebassnative, United States of America
I'm delighted by the Postcrossing Quilt and the embroidered, crocheted, and collaged postcards mentioned on this string of comments.

I'd love to send a bit of fabric to anybody wanting it for a postal project; and I'd also like to see photos of such projects and exchange ideas, so I opened a Facebook group.

To kick things off, I'll send you a bit of the stamp fabric if you join the group and then send me a message with your address.

The group name on Facebook is Postcrossing Crafts.
