The most anticipated day of the year is here at last — it’s World Postcard Day! Today is the day we celebrate the joy and history of sending and receiving postcards, a tradition that now spans 154 years.
Celebratory World Postcard Day events have been taking place for a few days already, and they will continue for a few more but today is the BIG day, and so there will be a lot of postcard-writing! 😍 All around the world, people are setting up their desks or dining room tables, spreading out the postcards and stamps and address books and just writing, writing, writing! We hope you have some nutritious ravioli or stamp-shaped cookies by your side, to power this task of spreading postal hugs around the world. You can send them to postcrossers, but remember also to send them to friends, family and everyone else you think deserves a little love. In particular, think of the children in your life and their delight at receiving a special postcard when they open the mailbox next week… you could be their favorite person for a day with just one postcard!
To us, it’s really heartwarming to think of all the postboxes that will see some love this Sunday. Like our favorite ones in town, which we make sure to keep well-fed!
And as always, if you need a break from writing so many postcards, do come share with us how you’re getting along on your World Postcard Day celebrations in the comments below, on this forum topic, or on social media using the hashtag #worldpostcardday. We’ll be reposting and highlighting some photos and posts throughout the day, hoping to spread the word to even more people, and inspire them to write a few postcards too.

Hello from the USA - state of California!
Patiently waiting for Oct 1 - 4 hours and 43 minutes to go with pen at hand and supplies ready for World Postcard Day! So glad I have all Sunday to get'm out. I will also be sending postcards to my life long friends from all over the USA - they now "expect" them and now send some my way as well. My oldest granddaughter, who enjoys all the postcards I receive, shared with me ravioli our first World Postcard Day and my youngest grand baby told me this week she'll come back to eat "stamps" (ravioli) with me. They love it!

Happy World PostCard Day to all of you out there....which of you will I get to send mailbox love to in the years to come? I'm new to PC this year and unless I get lucky in the next 24 hours I will have to wait until 2024 to get the WPD Badge. I've had 6 travelling cards for weeks and none have been registered....maybe tomorrow. So family and friends will be my priority. First up.....my niece and her husband. They are celebrating their 1-year wedding anniversary today.

We are making streaming meditation art here in our Arttatito Studio. Sometimes magickal events are happening in our space.
And we would like to share with you a kind of channeling message that came from the postcards special for you:
"I love traveling. I love to be touched, studied, held in arms. I love when people look at me, contemplate, admire me and smile. I evoke happy emotions. I like to move and turn in space. I send information and energy messages from person to person without digital technology in a live and direct way. I have a huge amount of energy “packed” in me, which you can enjoy if you wish. I can transport a person everywhere in the world. Through touch I transmit vibrations. Through eye contact with me you can receive information from a person tête-à-tête. My mission is to unite humanity, to bring people closer to each other across far distances in space and time. I help human beings open their hearts. I am a subject for meditation. I bring up the warmest feelings. I activate memories and support plans for the future. But what is more important is that I create a multi-level and multi-stage process of pleasure in the present moment. There are many, lots of us, and we are all different. What unites us is that we are all open! On the one hand, we are very vulnerable, but also we are incredibly purposeful. I know how to make a person laugh and be surprised, how to warm his/her soul, how to support people in difficult times, how to share their joy. I spread Love. Happy world postcard day! This is my first year participating and I was nervous about having cards to send and having my address in the pool. I sent a bunch a week out and one arrived on Friday so I was feeling good but then a WPD miracle happened and one of the very first cards I sent that was 48 days traveling arrived in Taiwan! Sent Aug 14 and arrived today. Excited to send four cards and maybe receive two!

A happy WDP to you all there! It's my first one, after almost one year PX I'm a member of the day! Two weeks I was so excited for it and I safe all my slots for today. So I write 5 PX cards and some for family & friends. It's one of my favourite hobbies now, also when I often wrote postcards before my time with Postcrossing.
Hello i get new address in 1:30 after midnight and there is date 30 Sept. It means that i did not get the badge despite that there was limitation of 10 adreses so it was definitely chosen 1st of Oct? Happy postcard day to all of you ❤️

I am not getting the extra spots for sending... I am new and can only send 6, and I am at that limit, but I thought for today we were to get extra for up to 10 travelling, so I should be able to send 4 more for today... am I mistaken in that? I am at the limit at 6 and it won't let me send any more, shouldn't I be able to send 4 more today?

Hi @MichaelMechanical, you don't get any extra slots on WPD beyond what you can normally send & have open at the moment. The system DOES NOT give you any special boost today.
The "you can send up to 10 cards" limit was for those of us that have a larger ability to send cards so that the system wouldn't get to strained today with the demand for addresses. I can send up to 22 cards currently, but I could only draw 10 WPD addresses today.

Happy world postcard day, friends! I’m stunned that I didn’t know about postcrossing until a USPS mishap. In 2022 I found in my mailbox a postcard addressed to a postcrosser with a very similar street name and very similar street number. I hand-delivered the postcard to the correct address and then quickly signed up with postcrossing and have been enjoying sending and receiving cards ever since.

This is my first World Post card day here. I was so excited I didn't send any recently so that I could have slots available for today. I am allowed to send 8, I had 3 traveling, so I was excited to be able to send 5. But this morning all 3 of my traveling ones expired!. So, I got to send 8!
So glad to send postcards today and celebrate! I just requested addresses a few minutes ago (about 9 PM CST in US). The site says I sent on Oct 2...I hope I still get my WPD badge.

True to the famous adage " Old is Gold", .....Postcards continue to invoke nostalgic memories of our "salad" days wherein the ubiqutous presence of a postman/woman at our door step shot up our dopamine levels!!!
I still have profound memories of my school's iconic red coloured post box nailed to a big Neem tree. It was revered by all school children for the sheer "happiness tidings" it delivered through the medium of postcards and inland letters!
I offer my gratitude to the founders of Postcrossing @ Paulo & Ana for this excellent initiative of connecting people and facilitating pristine bonding through the medium of postcard exchange in a physical form...
In this digital era, writing with a pen and pencil is on the verge of extinction and emails have saturated us to an extent that we shy away from this digital medium of friendship bonding .... however the joy which a physical postcard gives to its receipient is unparalled!

This was my first WPD and I sent 25 cards (official and unofficial) I have a feeling next year it will be even more. Happy WPD. 😊
Because I activated my account right after midnight on October 1st, I received already over 40 WPD cards! Almost all of them are sadly dated 30 september though, the people sending them not knowing that.
There is a bug here, Postcrossing. My first card, address asked after midnight - when the banner on the front page said it was WPD already - was also dated 30 sept. I waited until after 2:00 AM to ask for my other 9 cards that were left. There will be lots of unhappy people here. I hope for them that this gets sorted.
As president of the parents' association of my children's school, we made a collage of postcards and it looked great, in this facebook link you can see how it turned out, the students were impressed and learnt a new way of communicating, a great success.
