It’s no secret that October 1st is our favorite date on the calendar: the day we come together to celebrate postcards, the little rectangles of paper that have been connecting people and carrying happiness across the globe for 156 years.
If you pause for a moment, you might imagine today’s postal network humming with extra excitement! Sorting machines whirring a little faster, postboxes filling up with colorful postcards, and mail carriers unknowingly carrying a bit of extra joy in their bags. Somewhere, someone is carefully choosing the best postcard, the nicest stamps, and the kindest words to brighten another person’s day. 🥰
So today, wherever you are, we invite you to take part in this big wave of connection. Write a postcard to a fellow postcrosser, but also think of your neighbors, friends, family (young and old), teachers, co-workers, or someone who could use a smile. Let’s make mailboxes everywhere burst with cheer!
If you need a little boost of energy for the task, we recommend the official fuel of World Postcard Day: ravioli (because they look like postage stamps) and stamp-shaped cookies for dessert. 😋

I dropped off several happy mail postcards at the PO last night after they closed to send to local friends and family and am ready to add some postcrossing friends to the system later today. Ich war gestern als Postcrossender Geocacher auf einem Geocacher-Event. Nach Mitternacht heute morgen habe ich als geocachender Postcrosser Adressen angefordert. Gleich werden Postkarten geschrieben und auf Reise geschickt....Auch privat werden welche verschickt, bzw. verschenkt.... Hach herrlich.... So ein toller Einklang in den gemütlichen Herbst! I must admit I found this a bit disappointing, as I did not see anywhere in advance that the ‘event’ simply meant saving up slots for this day.
Perhaps you could consider giving everyone at least one extra slot for free on World Postcard Day in the future—it would make the day feel more special.

Happy WPD from Georgia, USA! It is my first year participating. I had 7 slots available this morning and after writing all of them I found 2 more postcards had been registered so I was able to request 2 more addresses! Got all 9 + 3 extra to the post office and asked for them to be hand cancelled with today's date. And now I see one of the 3 postcards I sent to China on August 4th was registered in the meantime so I got a 10th address! I don't know which I'm more excited about, getting the 10th address or seeing one of the postcards finally registered in China! 😂
Excited! I have already written a lot of WPD to my friends today.

YESSSS..... Going to a WPD-meeting in our "big" city Groningen and sending 10 special cards with matching stamps. We had a great time with in total 15 Postcrossers. Writing so many cards and meetingbooks.... I like to go to meetings.

I took off from work so I could dedicate my time sending out my World Postcard Day postcards! I mailed them to the 10 places I was given today (international), 12 to family & friends, 1 to the post lady that postmarked them & 1 to myself 🙂 IT WAS A FUN DAY!
We met yesterday in Mumbai GPO. It was a fun. Many postcards have been dropped in the mail by members. Writting with different pens, stickers, stamps, cancellation many photographs and with it snacks. What you want more to enjoy 😍😀
This was the first WPD I ever took part in. I took advantage of having over 10 free slots and sent all 10 cards I was allowed to. I just did not send the official card, I liked to keep it to the ones that were suggested by the recipients. Some people do prefer a city view over an event card.
Really really enjoyed celebrating WPD this year! A particular highlight was the Postcard Lounge and I would love to see this implemented at other points during the year!

I have sending 2 cards on post crossing day.
Postcards and pen and stickers were ready, and I tried to join the Lounge. My connection kept cutting out, because of the storm going through I believe. I ended up bailing out and going it alone this year. It was worth a try. Maybe next time
I pulled 3 addresses yesterday even though Canada Post is on strike and they won't be sent until that is over. I will try to explain to each of my 3 recipients why it has taken so long to reach them! Happy WPD everyone!
I wrote my cards out in advance to friends, family, and other Postcrossers, but didn't think to hold off requesting addresses until yesterday. (Rookie mistake #1, I guess!) Nevertheless, I took them to the post office yesterday where a slightly distracted, but friendly, postal employee hand-canceled all 11 of them for me, and neglected to charge me for one of the international stamps (I corrected her). And then I realized I had planned to photograph my cards as a group before mailing. (Rookie mistake #2) Having completed those tasks, I posted the World Postcard Day logo on my Facebook page last night, with a brief description of my new hobby. That resulted in at least one of my friends committing to look into Postcrossing, and another friend calling me a "deltiologist"! As it turns out, I also like to learn new vocabulary words. Do you think the label fits? ;~)

I bought special (Dutch) WPD postcards last week.
But last Tuesday I gave my laptop an (unsolicited) cup of "koffieverkeerd" (latte).
She/he/they weren't happy about that, so I had to buy a new one and couldn't send cards again until today.
I'll save the special cards for next time.

It was my first time joining World Postcard Day after returning to Postcrossing after many years. Happy to be back!
I can't wait to see the "stats" for World Postcard Day! I was lucky to be able to pick 10 addresses - and all 10 were to the USA! I'm not complaining - they are all Postcrossers like me just waiting to have a happy mail box! And, actually, it means the postcards will arrive quickly - and I saved a ton of postage! But, now I'm ready for some international addresses!

I am sad that my mailbox is empty due to our Postal Strike, but I did request and received my ten addresses, and have written all the cards, with an apology for them arriving late due to the disruption. I hope when they do arrive, the recipients will enjoy them. Have a wonderful day.
I drew six addresses that day, at different times, to have a more varied selection. Now I read that the system had problems. Hopefully it managed without any outages. Unfortunately, I had a higher number of postcards received that day, so no one had the opportunity to draw me.
I'm so sad that I couldn't send postcards with everyone on October 1! I only had time to participate on October 1, 2021. Then there was a break until this spring. However, in the summer, my account was blocked due to the fact that the Post of Russia does not send/lose postcards, and they disappear. The postcards I re-sent also did not reach their destinations... In Postcrossing, I actually enjoy sending postcards more than receiving them (although receiving them is also a pleasure...). Now, I'm on the sidelines of the overall celebration... God, when will normal life return?
