Remember last year, when we invited you all to poke your local libraries to join the World Postcard Day? Some of you did, and we later saw pictures of many nice library events!
This year, we’d love to see even more libraries of all kinds join the fun. Whether it’s your local library, a school library, or even a Little Free Library in your neighborhood, putting up a poster and sharing some postcards there is the perfect way to invite visitors to celebrate the day! All you need is a nice basket, a stack of postcards, and one of our printable pamphlets (updated in this year’s World Postcard Day’s color!) to get people inspired.
In previous years, we’ve also mentioned children and school activities but postcards can also bring a lot of joy to places like elderly centers and retirement homes. Organizing a small postcard-writing or postcard-making workshop can be a nice, low-intensity activity for seniors, giving them the chance to do some crafts, share memories and connect with loved ones.
If you don’t work in such a place but know of one nearby, you can still brighten someone’s day by writing a few postcards to residents on October 1st! We really encourage you to suprise the seniors with a few nice postcards, sharing some stories and well wishes — we’re sure it’ll make their day!
Whether it’s a big library or a nursing home, postcards have the power to create connections everywhere. So why not make World Postcard Day an excuse to spread a little more kindness in the world?
And as always, we’d love to see what you come up with — so please share your plans and photos with the community. 😍 Besides sending some postcards on Postcrossing, who will you be writing to on World Postcard Day?

This is such a cool idea! I will hold an event at my local library here in Houma, Louisiana. I have been wanting to spread the word about Postcrossing. Thanks so much!
If you cannot host something, how about making up a bundle of received postcards and leaving them at a hospital, school or old age home to be read, sharing in the fun and joy.
Great idea, Louise
What a great idea! There is a home for elderly people down the street at work. I will go there and ask if I can bring some postcards with a few nice words for the people there! 💌
I love doing this! In 2023, I spent half a day each at 2 different libraries and got children to write cards to children at other libraries around the country. Suring the following week, I visited 2 care homes and did the sae thing - taking the cards written at one care home to people in the other and vice versa! They loved it! I'm planning which ones to do this year now! Marjorie Edwards
I am so happy and proud to be part of this wonderful community. All of us here bring such joy and light into a very dark world.
That’s a great idea!
Love these ideas. My Mum lives in an independent living village (92) residents and I shall be sending postcards to each unit this year
a great idea!!
I write to a 10-year-old American boy every month and send him a postcard based on his requests. He has multiple sclerosis, and I think it's a great way to introduce him to the world and experience carefree moments.
Love this idea! I would like to try it too, but postage is quite expensive here. Any tips on how to manage the mailing costs?
It's a great idea, I love it.
I am actually volunteering at my local senior center and putting on a WPD event! I contacted them about it in August and they agreed. I will be providing the postcards, stickers, washitape and fun pens! They just have to bring their own stamps. I am very excited!
We will meet in 1st October here in our area's newest library :) Also in the Christmas time libraries collect cards to give them to elder residents <3
Such a cool idea!

Hi, what a kind idea 😊. I‘ll be writing some post crossing cards plus some for my penfriends and two friends that live alone. The latter don‘t know this day exists so it will be a surprise. 😊
I have a little free library and I hang postcards with a booktheme next to it :-)
It-s so excitting!
I do this every year already at my workplace with our seniors. They love it.
I work at a library and gave my manager information today. We'll probably do a basket of cards.
Dear Postcrossers, the poetry salon "Antik und Feder" (Antique and Feather) has been open in my hometown of Quedlinburg for a year now. On World Postcard Day, October 1, 2025, a special exhibition on this topic will open, featuring beautiful (possible) postcard motifs by some Quedlinburg artists. This exhibition will run for about a month with additional postcard-related offerings. A Postcrossing meetup would be the "Sahnehäubchen"! :-)
Unfortunately, due to time constraints, I can't organize such a meeting, but I'll probably make the necessary contacts with the owners of the poetry salon.
Is there anyone from my homeland who also thinks the idea of such a meeting here in Quedlinburg is great and would enjoy organizing it? Warm greetings to all of you out there in the big wide world from the small, dreamy medieval town of Quedlinburg, Johannette
I am new to Postcrossing and all my "slots" are filled with cards in transit at the moment. Even if I have no openings by then, I intend to send cards to those who are open to trading cards directly. I also have several friends to whom I regularly send cards when I travel, so I will enlighten them with special World Postcard Day cards!
Ik ga met mijn groep 3 kaarten schrijven voor het verpleeghuis in de buurt! Heel gaaf dat er meerdere klassen het leuk vinden en ook mee gaan schrijven!
Bordentown Library in Bordentown New Jersey USA installed their World Postcard Day Take and Mail Postcard Giveaway display today, 19 September 2025. Last year over 300 postcards were taken.
