It’s tiiiiiiiiime! We know everyone is eager to know what the theme and postcard will be for this year’s World Postcard Day, so let’s go! This is 2025's World Postcard Day postcard, created by Uran Duo:
The theme of the postcard is the most classical of postcard sentences, “Wish you were here”. With just four words, it captures everything a postcard is about: the moment you pause, look around, and think of someone far away with whom you would love to share the view and the adventure you’re having. With this postcard, we aim to celebrate that instant of connection that postcards bring about.
Uran Duo is the artistic name of two married freelance illustrators based in Fujian, China. The husband and wife partners both studied graphic design at the China Academy of Art, and after graduation decided to focus on illustration. We were drawn to the grain‑rich texture and the whimsical nature of their work, whose rounded shapes, gentle curves and friendly characters give each scene an almost story‑book vibe.
The design is, as usual, free to download, so you can have it printed locally or through any online service. Remember that every postcard posted on October 1st counts as a World Postcard Day card, so you can use this design or any other postcards you have on hand — they’re all brilliant!
This will be the sixth World Postcard Day we celebrate together! For those of you who are new to it, October 1st is the anniversary of the first postcard ever sent, and has thus been chosen as the day to celebrate postcards. It’s a day that goes beyond Postcrossing — a day when everyone is invited to send a postcard to friends, family, people they admire, those that need a bit of support or cheering up, children… 😊 Whether it’s your first or sixth time celebrating this special day, we hope you’re as excited as we are and that this will be the best one yet!

You need to request an address on October one and that postcard ID needs to eventually be registered by the recipient. That is how your badge is acquired

So impressed I was in the 1995s by Uzbek's Madonna of the East Yulduz Usmanova song! And that has never gone!
I have seen her performing in concert several times.
Good to know for all of us is that every postcard image will do. This special postcard, a collectors item for many, or whatever card can be used for sending out.

Will everyone be assigned an address that day? I haven't sent or received many cards yet, so I'm not sure how ‘world postcard day’ works. I hope I get an address on that day to send this lovely card! Of course, I'll stick the newly issued Dutch Postcrossing stamp on it!

@von. You have to save a slot for the day (preferably 2-3 slots, in case one of those postcards gets lost in the post). Once a postcard that you draw on 1st October is registered, you get the badge.

I won't list the services here in case it counts as advertising, but there are example companies on the World Postcard Day website here: https://worldpostcardday.com/celebrate#postcard Alternatively, search for "short run digital print service" with your search engine of choice. If you want to earn the special World Postcard Day badge on your profile, you need to request an address on 1st October and wait for the recipient to register that card. Once at least one of your cards that you sent on 1st October has been registered, you get the badge.

A year ago I sent out 10 cards for World Postcard Day. I didn't receive a single one. It was disappointing after so much anticipation and excitement about WPD, especially after seeing so many cute unique designs my fellow Postcrossers had received. I will skip it this year. I receive many wonderful postcards all year long from everyone and that's the best, for me.
I liked this design, especially the message "Wish you were here."
It feels especially meaningful for many Ukrainians now, when so many families are separated because of the war. Even with all the modern technologies—video calls, messages, social media—it's still so important to have something physical, like a postcard or letter, that you can hold in your hands when your loved ones are far away. It brings a different kind of warmth and connection, something real and lasting.

@LemonCakes If any of your travelling cards weren't registered on Oct. 1 last year, your address wasn't in the address pool to be given out. Drawing addresses and sending cards on Oct. 1 doesn't mean that you will receive a card sent on that day.

I would really like the pdf-file to be available in "normal" postcard size too. I just paid a handsome fee to my local printers to downscale to normal size. But now I got 100 postcards to send - pure joy! (100 cost the same as 20, so why not)
