The writing prompts invite postcrossers to write about a different topic on their postcards’ messages every month. These are just suggestions though — if you already know what you want to write about, or the recipient gives you some pointers, that’s great too!
Happy New Year, everyone! 🎉 As we step into 2025, we invite you to take a moment to reflect on the beauty and creativity that inspires us — and what better way than by sharing our favorite pieces of art?
Art has a magical way of connecting us to emotions, memories, and stories. Whether it’s a painting, sculpture, photograph, or even a doodle, art resonates differently with everyone. It could be something you’ve admired in a museum, a piece you’ve stumbled across in a small gallery, or even a cherished creation made by a loved one.
What makes it special to you? Is it the artist’s unique technique, the colors that seem to come alive, or the story behind the creation? Maybe it reminds you of a special time in your life, or perhaps it’s simply something that makes you happy every time you see it.
Feel free to share the details on the postcards you send out this month! If it’s a painting, what does it look like? If it’s a song or performance, what emotions does it evoke? Maybe you could describe how you first encountered it, or why it holds such a personal meaning for you. Art, like postcards, has the power to bridge distances and spark conversations — so let your favorite piece inspire your next card!
Here’s to a year filled with creativity, connection, and beautiful postcards. Happy writing, and may your postcards carry a little piece of art across the world.

I love this writing prompt! Happy New Year, one and all! Art is wonderful! :)
What a topic! This is my first comment on blog.
Come to think of it, I like a Korean song very much recently
IU《you and I》
This song is very cheerful. I think people should listen to sunshine songs more. If you have a chance, you can search and listen. Happy New Year.
The picture looks like a cultural relic of China ~
Music is ART! I will also look for the music ZiyiBai. Great idea. Happy New Year!
I love IU! Thanks for the idea!
Excellent 2025!!! Thank you very much for sharing this space for exchange. Art is always wonderful. A big greeting. Happy New Year!!!
ooooooooooooo
Happy New Year to everyone.
My favourite piece of art is little wood craved Humming bird that hang on the wall in our bedroom. We bought it years ago in an Indigenous Art shop in Tofinio, BC (Canada) It is carved by an Indigenous wood carve Artist.
I see it every day when I wake up and it feels good.
-HAPPY ART-
It's so hard to pick a favorite, even if I restrict myself to painters, but I'll go with the collective work of the English artist, David Hockney. At 87 years old he constantly evolves his work and enjoys exploring using new technology to express himself. From Yorkshire to Los Angles USA, France, portraits and landscapes, I hope Postcrossers will see some of his art.
Happy New Year!
Too difficult to choose just one piece of art for me. I love so many pieces. For painters, at the top of my list is Marc Chagall. The bright colors and whimsical and often fantastical compositions, bring me great joy.
Happy New Year to everyone!
I absolutely adore the art of australian aborigines. in Addition, I love Van Gogh paintings, they are so powerful!
Yes, I love art of all kinds! It makes you wonder, it makes you think, it makes you want more.
Dear blog, dear postcrossers,
what an interesting idea it is to write about art on postcards!
Art is intimately connected to writing: primitive men (they were Neanderthals) left rock carvings - the first form of art - dating back to 64,000 years ago (20,000 years before Homo Sapiens!), and therefore well before writing...
Art has always been a need of the human being, since the first reproductions of natural beauties (think of the frescoes on the walls of the houses of ancient Rome) up to the paintings and sculptures of the Renaissance, the bold architecture of the Gothic and Baroque, where the spires of the cathedrals and the curved and sinuous shapes of the buildings are clearly inspired by natural forms.
Personally, I love walking through the streets of Rome, where I live, to immerse myself in the different eras that sometimes mix together, showing elaborate capitals on top of majestic columns next to soft Renaissance shapes and - not far away - the austere shape of an Egyptian obelisk that soars towards the sky.
And I can't forget modern art, through which the artist shows reality transformed by his own sensitivity...
I really can't have preferences, just like a parent can't love one child more than the other!
Although lately I haven't been able to find time available for my passions, such as sending postcards to postcrosser friends, one of my good intentions for the new year that has just begun is to resume the ancient pleasure of sending postcards thanks to this precious site, and art will certainly be the protagonist, like the images depicted on the postcards sent in previous years.
Warm greetings to all postcrossers from Rome, Italy, and a wish for a happy new year, full of serenity and peace (we really need it, on this our little planet!)
Ballet accompanied by live orchestra. That is art!
I don't have a favorite piece of art, but rather I love art that can come in many forms and media. Film, music, theater, radio, books. I will say that on my recent trip to London I wanted to go to a museum called Tate that has modern art, but didn't get to go but will go.hopefully.in the future. And last I have become very fond of the ballet! My last trip to the theater was to see a ballet of The Nutcracker. I loved it!
If I was only allowed to pick one work it would be “Frieda and Diego” by Frida Kahlo. Frida was an amazing individual, who, despite great pain, created lasting works. Diego was definitely the more famous one during their lifetimes, but beyond his murals and paintings he also collected artifacts and started his own museum.
The relic in the picture is from ancient China
@wangweixuan @ZiyiBai Indeed! It was my favorite piece at the Shanghai Museum!
I did a search on the 1st, but I'm not sure.
What a wonderful fate ~
I have some of my daughters art (they're not artists just stuff from school) on the walls in my craft area - wouldn't part with it. I also remember seeing Jeff Koons giant pink poodle at the museum of modern art in San Fransisco in the 90s and thinking wow - art? but I did love it.
Not to forget the stamps. They are little pieces of art too.
Happy New Year, one and all! Art is wonderful, I always love to read about Art history and musuems, also love to buy artisitics stamps and postcards.
Happy Happy New Year❤️
That's a great idea. I love the art of my favorite painter Hans-Werner Sahm so I'll spread his art this month 😍
My all time favorite painting is DANCING GOOSE by Benjamin Chee Chee.
Greetings from Finland in the middle of snow! My favourite painter is Finnish female painter Helene Schjerfbeck. She lived 20 years with her mother in my hometown and walking the streets and seeing places I often think about her. She was born 1862 and died 1946. There are fact and fiction books written about her and also a Finnish film called Helene. I have also seen one play telling her story. Hope everyone has a good year 2025!
Hello everyone, Happy New Year! I love many kinds of artwork but I prefer those making good mood and enjoying heart and soul. Real life is so hard and often destroying that we need a positive counterweight to keep in balance.
I really like "The Large Family" by Renee Magritte. It's a challenge to connect the title to what is depicted, but to me it always felt like it was urging us to hold onto hope and love in dark times.
When my husband was volunteering in a historical lmuseum as blacksmith he made flowers for me out of knives which he bought first in secondhandedshops. I still treasure them.... and asked him to leave the handle from the knife visible although it changed into the flowerstalk.
I love sending art cards, and appreciate you choosing this topic. Art is a part of daily life for every person, in many different forms. Thank you.
Happy 2025 to all of you!
As many of you wrote this idea, I really can't have preferences, just like a parent can't love one child more than another!
But it is a beautiful idea, so let's spread the art in our mailboxes!
xoxo
The picture seems to be a cultural relic from Tang Dynasty of China:)
I like this prompt very much and have used it for some of the postcards I've sent this month. I don't have one favourite so I picked one, a painting by the artist Walter Langley, and printed off a small photo of it onto ordinary paper. I glued it to the postcards & then commented on it.
