Good news, everyone! Just like in the last couple of years, Geocaching is joining the World Postcard Day celebrations with a special souvenir!
In 2025, 20,791 geocachers logged attendance at a World Postcard Day-themed event, and many postcards also made their way to Geocaching HQ in Seattle, where they were proudly displayed around the office. Look how cool their walls look!!
So we’re happy to share that Geocaching is continuing this collaboration in 2026! 🎉
Here’s what you need to know: from September 27 to October 4, 2026, geocachers will be able to earn the World Postcard Day souvenir by attending or hosting a Geocaching Event, as well as finding and logging one Letterbox Hybrid geocache. The dates line up neatly around World Postcard Day, which is on October 1.
By now, I think everyone knows what Geocaching is all about… but for those who might not be familiar with it, it’s a global treasure-hunting game played outdoors with the help of a GPS or smartphone. Players search for hidden containers (called “caches”) all around the world, sign their logbooks, and then share their adventures online. It’s all about getting out there in nature, looking out for treasures with friends!
This year’s extra challenge is kind of cool too: Letterbox Hybrid caches are inspired by letterboxing, a hobby that combines navigation, puzzle-solving and rubber stamp artistry. Many Letterbox Hybrid caches include a stamp for visitors to use in their own logbook… but which could also be used on a postcard, to make it extra fancy! 😍
If you’re organizing or attending a Geocaching event during that week, why not bring a few postcards along? You could write postcards together, exchange them, send one to Geocaching HQ, or even invite other curious geocachers to discover Postcrossing and the World Postcard Day.

So many Letter Hybrid caches aren't there anymore. At least near me in Minneapolis. Business gone. Wild place changed significantly.
Just downloaded the app, but it seems a majority of geocaches near me need to upgrade to Geocaching Premium to be able to see the details. Is this common?

My greatest hobby of all time! Once, while I was on vacation, I was searching for a cache right in front of the Sagrada Família. Three locals noticed me looking around and asked if I was lost or needed help. 😂

We love to geocache! It takes us to the "nooks and crannies" of places we visit, places we wouldn't have known about if it weren't for geocaching.

Two of my favorite hobbies, postcrossing and geocaching! There are geocaches all across the ENTIRE world! You might even discover that there is a geocache within walking distance of where you live!

Just returned from a 2,750 road trip from Houston to Chicago via The Mother Road 66 which we caught in Oklahoma. Geocaching all the way and scored 69 new caches. Got home and had 7 PostCardings to tend to. Great fun! Oh, and celebrated milestone 400 plus 59th wedding anniversary along the way...WOOHOO!
I don't really understand what is expected or what will happen. Both Geocaching and Postcrossing are a hobby of mine.. But I'm not sure what will happen during this crossover? I will look into it and hopefully find an simpeler explanation (English is not my mother language, so sometimes a bit difficult).
I am a home brewer and a Geocacher, and now Postcrosser. Im usally put geocaches at the local breweries in my area. I will, look to host an event on National Postcard day.

Been geocaching since 2005, but just started postcrossing 2 weeks ago. Looking forward to getting my first card. Hope to meet other people too.
We used to geocache but it seems now that all the good ones are hidden by a paywall (including the letterbox hybrids). Around us, the only ones for free players are micros hidden under lamp post covers. We've kind of been turned off from it.
I've heard of geocaching but never taken part... postcrossing seems to lead from one hobby to another! I'll have to check if there are any events in the UK!
