About Marty...

A bit about me: I'm an art librarian at a major state university in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I love living in southern Louisiana - it has such a unique cultural history, the food is fantastic and the people are a lot of fun.

I teach information literacy exclusively now, but I've also taught art history from time to time in the past. Most people think librarians read all day at work but we don't have time for that with all the other professional activities required of us! I love all types of art, but my favorites are African, Islamic, Russian, and medieval art.

I'm an artist in my own right, although not a famous one by any means. My favorite medium is printmaking, drypoint and woodcut to be exact. I also knit, have learned how to spin my own yarn, and will be learning, or trying to learn, naalbinding which is an ancient form of knitting using one needle.

I started geocaching a few years ago, which gets me out of the house and out into nature. It can be challenging physically and mentally, but that's what I love about it. I do read a lot in my spare time too. My favorite genres are historical fiction, mysteries, and horror. I'm learning to like sci-fi/fantasy too.

Places outside of the US that I've visited:
~Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
~Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia (Moscow is my 'first love' when it comes to overseas travel.)
~Dublin, Ireland
~Mexico City, Cuernavaca, Taxco, Mexico
~Entebbe and Kampala, Uganda
~Helsinki and Jyvaskyla, Finland

I'm glad to receive any type of postcard image. However, I'd particularly welcome quirky or vintage images, anything art- or nature-related. I also like historic places, buildings, etc. Anything that's of important significance to your country or city would be greatly appreciated!
