The Krásnobrod icon of the Mother of God is first mentioned in writing in the record of the burning of the local monastery by Count Valentín Druget of Humen in 1603. However, it is said that it was written several centuries earlier. Although the monastery and the church burned down, the icon was miraculously saved undamaged. According to tradition, it shed tears until the construction of the new church in 1614.

Originally, the 110 × 75 cm icon had a wooden base and was probably rectangular in format. It depicts the Blessed Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ as a child. The exceptionality of their display concerns both the clothing and the texts on the icon. On the scroll that Jesus Christ is holding, there is an inscription in the Church Slavonic language that is hardly legible today. It is a quote from the Gospel according to St. John: "As Abraham was, I am" (Jn 8, 58).

In the lower part of the icon there is another barely legible inscription. In 1769, the damaged icon was repainted by Tadeáš (Michal) Spalinský and in 1972 by Mikuláš Jordán. During the last repainting, the silver covering from the second half of the 17th century and the wooden base were separated from the icon. After the destruction of the monastery in 1915 and during the persecution of the Greek Catholic Church, the local believers hid the icon. Currently, the icon is located in the Chapel of St. Pavle Petr Gojdič in the Monastery of the Outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Krásni Brod. A copy of the icon was presented by Greek Catholics to Pope John Paul II. during the beatification of Prešov bishop P.P. Gojdič in 2001.
