Liège is a major city and municipality of Wallonia and the capital of the Belgian province of Liège. The city is situated in the valley of the Meuse, in the east of Belgium, not far from borders with the Netherlands (Maastricht is about 33 km to the north) and with Germany (Aachen is about 53 km north-east). In Liège, the Meuse meets the river Ourthe. The city is part of the sillon industriel, the former industrial backbone of Wallonia. It still is the principal economic and cultural centre of the region.

Droixhe is an administrative district of the Bressoux section in the commune of Liège in Belgium. It is located north of the city on the right bank of the Meuse. Long an agricultural plain then a maneuvering plain for the army, this place was used to host the Liège International Exhibition in 1930. It was then redeveloped to accommodate housing, the site was built in a functionalist style inspired by Le Corbusier after the Second World War. Built in several phases between 1959 and 1976, it is the largest architectural ensemble of its type in Belgium. In fact, the city accommodated 1,800 housing units.

The first towers were destroyed in 2009. These were the two towers located at the ends of Avenue de la Croix Rouge. After asbestos removal and dismantling of the technical rooms, the ten upper floors were attacked with a wrecking ball (October 5, 2009 for tower number 13). The ten lower floors were demolished with a hydraulic excavator. For reasons of too high costs for the renovation, the last three towers saw their last days in 2014-2015. In 2018, the municipal authorities announced a vast project aimed at reclassifying the neighborhood.
