Earlier in February this year, we asked you to send some postcards to a school in Guimarães (Portugal), whose students were working on a European Capital of Culture project. They’ve received an avalanche of cards from all over the world – so many that they decided to do several postcard-mosaics instead of a single one! :)

As you can see, the mosaics were displayed in several windows of the school, so that the postcards were easily accessible from both sides. The project was very well received – so much so that it is still being displayed, months after it’s conclusion date!

You can see the four mosaics below (click for bigger images):

Did you spot your postcard? :)

The students have also made thank-you postcards themselves, which they’ve sent back to some of the senders during their English classes.

A big congratulations to the students and teachers of the Escola Secundária Martins Sarmento, and a huge thank you (from them and us) to all the postcrossers who sent a card to this school!

On the first day of Chinese New Year, 23rd January, the Singapore Philatelic Museum opened the doors to this year’s Dragon exhibition, which is a great success!

They’ve received more than 100 postcards, that have been placed in a special album on the Dragon’s Lair. Mishelle Lim, who works at the museum (and has been busy replying to all received postcards!), tells us that both adults and children like to peruse the album and read the messages on them!

Once again, thank you to everyone who participated, and if you’re ever in Singapore, do visit the Philatelic Musem! :)

They say Guimarães is the place where Portugal was born, the cradle of the nation. This small city in the north of the country has a lot to offer and is this year’s European Capital of Culture (along with Maribor in Slovenia).

The students and teachers from the local secondary school “Martins Sarmento” in Guimarães want to involve Postcrossing in the celebrations. Their idea is to build a heart-shaped mosaic resembling the logo of the European Capital of Culture.

And for that of course, they need your help! The school invites all postcrossers to send a postcard until March 9th to the following address:

Escola Secundária Martins Sarmento
A/C Cristiana Cerdeira
Alameda Prof. Abel Salazar
4810–247 Guimarães
Portugal

You can write a personal message, your thoughts on Guimarães or just “I am part of it!”.

Write your e-mail address as well: you’ll receive an e-mail from them with a picture of the finished mosaic. The first 20 postcards received will also receive a postcard from the European Capital of Culture.

The students from the school “Martins Sarmento” thank you for your collaboration, and welcome you into their city!

dragons

The Singapore Philatelic Museum is once again preparing their annual exhibition dedicated to the Chinese Zodiac, this time featuring… dragons! These magical creatures have inspired legends and stories all around the world – from Saint George and the dragon, to Watatsumi, Tianlong or even… Dragon Ball!

No matter the dragon you know best, the Singapore Philatelic Museum would like you to share it with their visitors! So please send your dragon postcards to:

Singapore Philatelic Museum
23B Coleman Street
Singapore 179807

Mishelle Lim, who works at the museum, tells us that many visitors, young and old stop to admire and read the postcards sent by the postcrossers.
The exhibitions are usually very interactive, and especially attractive to the younger visitors of the museum – so please send a message to the little ones! You can tell them about your favourite dragon, or just say hi! Bonus points if you can find stamps with dragons as well!

As usual, all cards received before the end of the year will receive a reply from the museum – so don’t forget to include your address.

PS – Curious about what these exhibitions look like? Take a look at the previous editions!

By now, many Postcrossing users are familiar with the Singapore Philatelic Museum and its very impressive Chinese New Year exhibitions.

Previous editions such as A rat’s tale, A Cow and Bull Story and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Danger were a big success, and included the participation of your themed postcards.

Next week starts the Year of the Rabbit, and once again, the Singapore Philatelic Museum invites you to take part in this year’s exhibition by sending in your bunny postcards (extra points for bunny stamps!) to:

Mishelle Lim
(Year of the Rabbit exhibition)

Apart from being featured in the museum walls, all postcards received until the 15th 22nd of February will receive a thank you card from Mishelle, so don’t forget to include your address!

What are you waiting for? Hop hop! :)
