Hi,

I am Lana. I am a linguist, it means that I’m studying the structure and the functioning of the language in general. And I like to use known languages too! My favourite foreign languages are Norwegian and French. Sometimes I even translate books from Norwegian into Russian - non-fiction and crime novels (not Jo Nesbø - there are many other crime writers in Norway!). Besides languages, reading and writing I like paper: smell it, Touch it, feel it, fold it, cut silhouettes from it… So postcrossing seems to me to be a perfect hobby. And I really do not understand why I never used to do it before. What else? Oh, I adore mermaids!
UPD: After three months of a lazy postcrossing I realized that the lists of themes and topics which are especially welcomed are in fact very polite because they facilitate the task for senders that are really eager to please their addressees. On the other hand, I see that the thin list of preferences let people be more spontaneous. And I got the cards that told me about things I knew nothing about , like the czech hotel "na Ještědu"! So I make my list longer, but not too much. And don't hesitate to send something spontaneous, unpredictable, random.
Besides the mermaids (and other water girls), I'll be happy to get postcards with photos of people faces and different challenging poses like yoga asanas and acrobatic tricks.
My daughter Liza who is eight years old was really impressed when I started to get postcards from far away. Now she also wants to get a card - with a tiger or a lion. She adores all felinae. Such a card will bring her the real joy - and to me as a mum.

Оказывается, Россия занимает первое место по числу посткроссеров и второе - по количеству отправленных открыток. Это очень приятно. А кроме того, по-моему, дает определенные права русскому языку. Пускай его будет побольше в анкетах и подписях! Дорогие соотечественники! Рада всех вас здесь видеть и имею к вам специальное пожелание. Если можно, отправляйте мне, пожалуйста, открытки с видами скульптур и парков в ваших родных городах. Получила открытку из Калуги с девочкой под зонтиком и теперь хочу собрать "парковую" коллекцию!
