Hallo ....,
I am Diana, I live in a small town in the south of the Netherlands. I am a mother of 3 sons.
I am doing my best to be a loving, kind and caring person. I have a heart for people who didn't have the luck to grow up in good circumstances. Lately it struck me to see that so many young people (in rich European cities) have to live on the street, have no home and have to beg for food. It shocked me to see their desperate faces. I have firmly resolved not to walk by and look the other way anymore. At least I can give some money from my own abundance (although I am not rich) and talk to such a person.
I work with people who have psychiatric problems and drug and alcohol addicts. I meet a lot of people who have many problems in several areas. Sometimes I can help but very often I can,t. That is not always easy.
I am also a painter. (you can see my paintings on my website dianavangaans.com)
I just love to paint, images can be so powerful.
I always want "to tell a story" through my paintings. For some time I am sending my paintings all over the world by means of postcrossing. For me it,s an amazing idea to imagine how a painting, made by me, a dutch woman, will be seen by someone in, for example, Russia.
I read a lot about art and history. I love to go to a museum and be enchanted by all the beautiful paintings I can see there. I love religious and mythological paintings because there are so many hidden meanings in it. Probably you won't believe me if I tell you that sometimes I have tears in my eyes when I see a beautiful painting in a museum.
My favorite Painter is Gustave Moreau, the so called father of Symbolism (Second half of the nineteenth century). His paintings are of an enthralling beauty.
The Italian Renaissance Painters are great like Filippo Lippi, his son Filippino, Sandro Botticelli, Perugino, Raphael and Michelangelo. Art Nouveau, for example Gustav Klimt and Jan Toorop I admire very much. I also love the Pre-Raphaelites, like Edward Burne-Jones, John Waterhouse and Gabriel Dante Rossetti. One of their contemporary admirers, John Rushkin who was a writer, once said: "All great art is praise". For me that is true.
When I am working on a painting myself, I always try to give it a deeper meaning and want to honor the One who has given me this great gift.

If you sent me a postcard, I will be very happy with all kind of postcards. But the ones with art or history I like the most. Tell me about yourself or something about your country. I am interested in what makes you happy or what you admire, your dream, please tell me about it.
Please write the date on it.
I also like interesting stamps from your country. I love it when you write your favorite quote in your own language (with translation), a speech word or a proverb from your country, your favorite bible verse etc, but feel free.
