About Birgit...

Hi,

my name is Birgit and I live in a small town in the very north of Germany, which is called Eckernförde. It is situated at the Baltic Sea, about 70km away from Denmark. Once it used to be a fishing town, but now it's a tourist place most of the year really, since we have long beautiful beaches up here as well as cute old houses and many interesting small shops.

I am a passionate teacher for the 10 to 19-year-olds and teach art, drama and English at a local school. I am also acting in my free time. Together with two friends I started a small theatre company that even gets state funds. Yay! Being on stage is something that really makes me happy!

I'm married with two wonderful children aged 15 and 18. Together we have got a garden in which we grow all sorts of flowers, veggies and fruit.
Also, we keep two pet rabbits in a hutch. (One of them just passed away in November 2023.)

If I find time I try to make some art myself - mostly handlettering, photography and papercrafting. So, of course, I love art postcards - contemporary art, parodies of famous pieces of art, illustrations, typography, collages, homemade ones and also ones with nice quotes or puns - and any postcard that in some way is related to my interests. (If you take a look at my favourites you will see that I especially like the unusual photo, graphic or illustration... Most of them are cards that I don't have.)
But I also like postcards that show your homeplace. Even if you live in a tiny village it would be great if you could get a postcard of that place or of something that represents your country or culture for me. And I like surprises... In fact, as you may have guessed from the sheer amount of favs, I'm a picture-junkie! :-)

Apart from all that which I have mentioned above I like cooking, drinking tea or wine, reading, mail art, meeting friends, music, zumba and travelling. However, I have to admit that I don't do that much travelling any more since I'm a mother (but Postcrossing reminds me of the hours I spent in hostels talking to strangers from all over the world. Thank you!)... Still, my favourite places are Iceland, Great Britain, the Canadian westcoast and Ireland (I used to live in and around Cork for a while after finishing school.). And what I do now is: At least once a year I take a weekend off and travel to Berlin in order to visit friends and enjoy as many cultural events as possible in about 48 hours.

And now: Tell me about you! I'm really looking forward to your postcard and your story! (I'm also very interested in what comes to your mind if you think of Germany. Maybe you like to put a few things on your card...)

Happy Postcrossing!

Birgit :-)

P.S.: For my papercrafts I collect different kinds of paper and stickers.
You would make me extremely happy sending some bits and pieces with your postcard, if you like/can. Thank you so much! :-)

P.P.S.: Sorry, but I don’t register cards that I never received and never ask other members to do that for me.
