About bookowl1000...

In June 2015 my workplace relocated to a new location; I have been experiencing difficulty receiving mail, i.e. Not successfully received any, thus my account is currently inactive.

I am a book fanatic who moved to China from the UK to teach chemistry. I do not speak Chinese, though I am learning, and so would appreciate a message in English.

I like postcards of any theme and DIY cards are fine too - if someone wants to put effort into making something for me, then I am happy to receive it. I do not mind ad cards so long as you think they are truly interesting for some reason.

If you are stuck about what to write then tell me about a tradition or event from your country. As I am an expat experiencing cultural differences every day, I am interested to learn more about other cultures. Alternately, as a book fanatic I am always interested in what other people favourite books are and why. I am also a big sci fan fan so welcome recommendations of books to read, tv/movies to see...being here in China means sometimes i can be out of the loop on the new big thing is.

I do particularly like cards relating to (in no particular order):
- owls (love owls)
- birds of prey
- penguins
- polar bears
- seals
- dolphins
- butterflies
- insects especially ladybirds
- bluebells, poppies, sunflowers, spring flowers
- natural beauty/scenes of nature, particularly mountains, lakes and geological features
- autumn and winter scenes
- SNOW
- trains/trams
- historic buildings
- old/vintage cards
- black and white postcards
- science related (I am a science teacher)
- science fiction (am a big fan)
- books/reading/literary characters
- ladybird book covers
- post/mail/stamps
- ART: paintings and sculpture particularly 17th century Dutch and pre-Raphaelite art
- traditional celebrations/customs/costumes
- something quirky that will make me smile
- wombles (British childrens tv/book characters)
- moomins
- flower fairies
- mythical creatures/fairy tales
- cartoon characters

I prefer the postcard to be written on, stamped and addressed rather than in an envelope.

A look through my favourites will show you cards that I have spotted on other peoples walls that I have particularly liked, though any card found in my mail box will make me smile.

I am happy to send a postcard back to someone who sent me one, or do a direct exchange, so if you fancy a postcard form China don't be afraid to ask.

NOTE: post to and from China can take a long time (2-8 weeks even for a postcard), especially when the address is english only. If you want to speed up the process so that you can be receiving postcards sooner then, if possible, I recommend you also print the Chinese version of the address and stick to the card.
