About Monika...

Tanya from Belarus - BY 1773365
Your postcard arrived today (30.Dec.2016). I couldn't register it, because the ID-Nr. was sent over 1 year ago.

My name is Monika. I'm married since 1973 and I've two grown up children.

I was born in Essen, but for more than 40 years I live in Gelsenkirchen.

My hobbies are traveling, skiing, biking, reading, cooking,
listening to music
- especially bands and artists like The Beach Boys :)))), Elvis, Cliff Richard and the Shadows, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, Eros Ramazotti, Drupi, Adriano Celentano, Edoardo Bennato, Prince, Jonny Cash...... all of the sixtees..... :)))

I'm really crazy about football(soccer). My favourite team is FC Schalke 04.

Here a little bit history about my town:

Gelsenkirchen is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located in the northern part of the Ruhr area.

In the early 20th century Gelsenkirchen was the most important coal mining town in Europe. It was called the "city of a thousand fires", for the flames of mine gasses flaring at night.

During the World War II Gelsenkirchen remained a center of coal production and oil refining, and for this reason it was bombed by Allied air raids.

Today in Gelsenkirchen there are no collieries anymore and Gelsenkirchen is searching for a new image. Germany's largest solar power plant is located in the city. In Gelsenkirchen there is a coal-fired power station with the tallest chimneys in Germany (302 m).

Gelsenkirchen is home of the famous football club Schalke 04, which is named after the borough Schalke, while the club's stadium, the Veltins-Arena, is located in the borough of Erle.
Gelsenkirchen is also the birthplace of football player Manuel Neuer, who currently play for the Germany national football team (goalkeeper).
