About Markus...

Hi there,

by choosing "TasmanianTiger" as my username I want to commemorate one of the many beautiful but alas exterminated species of our planet, the Tasmanian Tiger (binomial name: Thylacinus cynocephalus, Greek for "dog-headed pouched one"). It was the largest known carnivorous marsupial of modern times. It is commonly known as the Tasmanian tiger (because of its striped lower back) or the Tasmanian wolf.

Native to continental Australia, Tasmania and New Guinea, it is believed to have become extinct in the 20th century. It was the last extant member of its family, Thylacinidae; specimens of other members of the family have been found in the fossil record dating back to the late Oligocene. On YouTube there are some videos of the last Tasmanian Tigers which lived in a zoo in the US. The last animal died in 1936.

I am from Düren in Northrhine-Westfalia, Germany. My home town lies at the northern foothills of the Eifel mountains, a national park in the west of the country. It's a very nice place for recreational activities like walking, mountain climbing, camping, canoeing, skiing etc...

My hobbies are:

camping with caravan (Norway!!),

reading (e.g. James Clavell's "Shogun"),

Cartoons, Comics (e.g. Gary Larson "The Far Side")

going to the movies,

TV, YouTube (news, historical documentaries)

home cinema,

listening to film music (soundtracks, film scores: John Barry, Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmer, Klaus Badelt, John Williams, Jeff Beal, Christian Bruhn, Klaus Doldinger, Randy Edelman, Michael Giacchino, Jerry Goldsmith, Bernard Herrmann, James Horner, Gottfried Huppertz, Steve Jablonsky, Joseph LoDuca, Cliff Martinez, Ennio Morricone, Basil Poledouris, Karel Svoboda, Vangelis, Stephan Zacharias),

internet & computer activities,

jogging with my girlfriend through the woods,

or just walking the dogs: Rudi (8 years old), is a mongrel, he comes from Greece where in 2007 he was handed in at an animal asylum; he came to Germany via "airmail" where we got him at an animal shelter; he enjoys to be cuddled :-) We also have a German Shepherd (9 years old, totally different type and charakter, more serious, he doesn't like to be tickled at all :-(

All postcards and photo motifs are welcome (but no free and ad-cards, please).

I prefer postcards without envelope, but if you want you can also put them in one.

In your postcard tell me something about your life, your hobbies, what's important for you in life, anything you like... 😄

P.S. Don't forget to write your postcrossing ID, the date and put a PRIORITY sticker on the postcard...
