About Marloes...

Hi dear Postcrossers!

I am Marloes, a 25 year old granddaughter of a lovely man. I had (and in my heart and memory still have) a very special relationship with my grandfather and that is one of the reasons I set up this account on Postcrossing.

This idea started because I sent my grandfather many postcards eversince he got diagnosed with incurable lungcancer. He then always called me to express how happy and grateful he was to find another postcard in his mailbox. That was when I realized: I love sending postcards and my grandfather loves receiving them... Why not try to combine those in a postcrossing account :-) My grandfather was a loving, kind and positive-minded man. He enjoyed every moment of his life and he was happy with even the smallest things in life. For a couple of years you've all sent my grandfather beautiful, kind and loving postcards, and words cannot express my gratitude to all of you. You've been able to touch his heart, put a smile on his face and thanks to you he has seen so many places around the world.

I find it painful and I'm incredibly sad to announce my grandfather's passing. He passed away on September 18th, 2016, after two years of bravely battling cancer, of which 1.5 years were in [considering the circumstances] really great health. I've had wonderful moments with him, my favorite absolutely being our 10 days together in the south of France. I'm eternally grateful for everything he has taught me and every single moment we shared. I'm glad that my grandfather was able to enjoy his last years so much and that he even got to travel around Europe many times during these two years. I'm thankful for the goodbye I got to say to him. After a very short but heavy sickbed my grandfather died at home with my mom at his side.

For now, I'm taking a break from Postcrossing for a while, but I will return to continue this beautiful tradition that my Opa and I started together. For now I just want to thank you all so much for your beautiful postcards, and sometimes even touching words on them. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

In loving memory of my liefste Opa
