About Olim_erat...

My avatar name is the Latin translation of ‘Once upon a time there was..’. This refers to the past, but I also have positive expectations of the future, because fairytales don’t end with ‘And they lived happily ever after’ without a reason!

During my high school years I used to correspond with pen pals from all over the world. I was a member of the International Youth Service (IYS). Unfortunately, this organization does not exist anymore. IYS has brought me in touch with other cultures and gave rise to profound friendships. Friendships in real life were a sequel: mutual visits. Through a promotional item of the Dutch postal services, I got to know about Postcrossing. I am looking forward to a journey around the world with Postcrossing!

Now I will tell you something about myself:
Hiking is something I have always enjoyed doing. It gives me internal peace and energy. Sometimes accompanied by my old Golden Retriever. Since my recent vacation on the island of Guernsey (one of the British Channel Islands) I am now into cliff walking as well. Amazing, those rough coastlines and views!
I love painting and drawing. I also like to make photographs of nature (especially close-ups). Furthermore, I regularly go into town with my camera looking for architecturally / historically interesting objects (modern buildings, monuments, plaques, ornaments, murals, etc.). Meanwhile I am fascinated by the lines, structures and details. Sometimes one of my pictures becomes an inspiration for a painting or drawing.

I would like to receive:

• Cards showing the historical, cultural and/or natural characteristics of your country.
• Sketches/drawings/paintings of legends and fairytales or children’s literature.
Northern light (aurora borealis).
Russian Matruschka dolls.

I don’t appreciate:

• Ad-cards.
• Christian-religious cards.
• Humoristic cards.
• Self-made cards.

I prefer written and stamped single view postcards, so please do not send your postcard in an envelope.

If you can, put nice commemorative stamps on your card and not the regular ones.

Many greetings and happy postcrossing!
