First things first: feel free to send me any kind of postcard. 💌 I love all kinds of cards and snail mail in general. Handmade, folded, seasonal and ad/free cards are welcome, too! Birthday cards around August/September would be lovely surprises. 🥳

I’m Janita. I’m a Finn 🇫🇮 currently living in Germany 🇩🇪. I moved here in 2022 because of my husband’s new job – he’s a doctoral student researching the reuse of phosphorus. I myself am a radiographer by profession, used to working three shifts in a large and busy hospital, but currently I’m doing something totally different: making a mystery & true crime podcast in Finnish. At the same time I’m trying to settle down and adjust to my new life in this big and beautiful city. The metropolitan area of Stuttgart has a population equivalent to that of entire Finland, wow! 👀

I love all kinds of animals. At home we have three degus living with us: Hemmo, Kaapo and Mauno. 🐹 They’re 3-year-old brothers, and they bring so much joy to our life. They love sleeping on top of each other, running on their wheel and chewing on everything and anything.

My dearest hobby and passion is writing prose and poetry. In addition, I find joy in reading (my favourite writer is Stephen King), knitting, drinking coffee and tea, listening to music (especially oldies goldies, such as Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, Roger Hodgson), singing, and picking mushrooms. I play Dungeons & Dragons as a dwarf ranger. I like taking long walks with my husband. I exercise regularly on my own, too: high intensity interval training, kettlebell training and dancing.

I love colours, especially deep turquoise. I enjoy gazing at the night sky – it makes me feel small and meaningful at the same time. I enjoy rainy weather, inhaling fresh air filled with nature’s scents. I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie who could probably live on a rollercoaster! Like many Finns, I’m interested in ice hockey. I find mazes and labyrinths fascinating, and I like street art. I adore C-3PO from Star Wars, and droids and robots in general. I’m part of the LGBTQA+ community and passionate about human rights and social equality. I love the Eurovision Song Contest and the way it connects people.

I’m a language geek. 📚 Feel free to write to me in English, auf Deutsch, på svenska/dansk/norsk, eesti keeles or suomeksi! I enjoy traveling, too. 🌍 I lived in Denmark for a few months as an exchange student, and most of my childhood summers I spent in Estonia, because my mother is from there. My husband and I have a mission: we are trying to attend as many Worldcons as we possibly can! Our first was Helsinki in 2017, and in 2019 we were in Dublin. In 2020 and 2021 we attended virtually because of COVID-19.
