About Matt...

Hello! My name is Matt. I’m an American, but since the early spring of 2000 have lived in Hiroshima, Japan.

Let’s see...interests. You all seem to be listing your interests. Well then, I love books, beer and standing beneath the ginkgo trees on the grounds of country shrines. Standing or strolling anywhere in the Japanese countryside is wonderful, actually, though I live more or less in the center of a mid-sized city. I also like good food, bad jokes and old songs. In other words, a fairly middling sort of a man.

I’m new to the world of postcards. Never paid them much attention, and I’ve already realized that the first five I’ve bought aren’t quite interesting enough for this group, but they’re stamped and ready to go, so please accept my apologies if you’re one of the first five to receive postcards from me. I promise I’ll get better at this.

I’m joining Postcrossing partly just for the fun of it, and for a sense of connection, however tenuous and contrived, to other lives and other places. We’re all here together, all at the same time, and that is really quite marvelous. In some large, abstract and slightly ridiculous sense, a family. So hello.

I hope to use these postcards, in part, to give my two daughters a sense of the world and the people in it. Any postcard will be gladly received, but if you have something that shows where you live, or some aspect of your culture, that would be especially welcome. Silly pictures are good too, and if you’re one of those very cool people who make their own small pieces of art, well that would be wonderful. Thanks again, and I look forward to learning a little about many of you.
