SPECIAL REQUEST

Hello friends of the Postcrossing community! As a citizen in Hong Kong, I would like to borrow this platform to share some recent news about Hong Kong. As you might already know, Hong Kong has been protesting against a highly controversial extradition bill to China, which may further erodes Hong Kong's judiciary autonomy from Mainland China under ‘one country, two systems’, since June 9. On 9th and 16th June, more than 1 million and 2 millions of Hong Kong people (a third of the population) have marched on the streets to call for a full withdrawal of the bill. However, the Government responded indifferently to our request. As the protests go on, we see increasing police abuse on protesters and thug attacks targeted at protesters. The Police and the Government turned a blind eye to these violence from the triad gangs and blamed protesters for bringing unrest to the city. Protests have lasted for weeks, as the Government became more arrogant and hostile. This is a fight for freedom and justice that we do not dare to lose.

The protest in Hong Kong has now attracted international attention. Amnesty International (shorturl.at/kyzJR) and the United Nation Human Rights Office (shorturl.at/empF7) have both confirmed and voiced their concern over police violence and violation of human rights.

Here are some international news articles that can help you understand more about the situation here.

Thank you for reading this long message. If you are sending a postcard to me and have read my message, I would like to ask for a small request. Can you please share your thought and say a few words of encouragement to the people of Hong Kong? And please address this message to "Hongkonger". I really appreciate your time and support to us!
