About Jan...

Ahoi everybody,

my name is Jan, I'm almost fifty and I live in Hamburg. I studied history, german literature and economics for quite a while and then worked as a postman. Right now I'm an office clerk.

What I love most about my home town of Hamburg: Sailing on lake Alster, foggy autumn days at the harbour, the music of Superpunk and last but not least the cute and lovely Birgit.

When I was young, I pretty much looked like Keanu Reeves, today it's more like the old and plump Diego Maradona (but I'm at least 15cm taller than him).

I like to read (at the moment Theodor Fontane - Unwiederbringlich), indie rock and rugby.

In my shower, I'm a great singer, excelling in enthusiasm and volume!

Here are some of my heroes: Malala, Georg Elser, Pippi Langstrumpf, Nelson Mandela, Fritz Bauer, Patti Smith.

Most inspiring quotes:
"Do not be afraid" Luke 2:10
"Plus jamais peur" Arab Spring Tunisia 2010/11

If you are looking for something meaningful to spend your money on, check out this site: https://www.kiva.org/

My one song playlist for the last two month: Japanese Breakfast Paprika https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqrEVwTnlF4
Perfect song when I'm happy and when I'm moody and every time in between...

Achievements: There is a month named after me (JANuary) and I've been quoted by Germany's leading news journal Die ZEIT: https://www.zeit.de/2011/17/DOS-Mikrokredit-Sierra-Leone

My super hero power: I can name your celebrity look alike within seconds!

Favorite tv series: Yes Minister/Prime Minister, Coupling, Hey Dad, Borgen, Signor Rossi and of course The Muppets and Sesame Street - best documentary ever: Ken Burns' The Civil War!

I would love to read what you like about your home town or country. And please write a sentence in your language/alphabet (with translation of course)!

Any postcard will be welcome, but I particularly love maritime motifs like sea views, ships, lighthouses and harbors, and also cards with historic pictures of your town.
