My name is Alaina. I am 28 and live in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada where I am a social worker and self admitted nerd. I live in a 1910 house with my husband, thankfully he is handy (unlike me) and while the house is a big project smack dab in the middle of massive renovations, it has a lot of character and really is a ‘home’ to us.

Some things I love include tea, books (currently reading the Outlander series), star gazing, old things (I can easily spend a full day in any given antique mall), history, ghost stories, the outdoors, politics, social justice, activism, the labour movement and geography. I enjoy Sailor Moon, anything Studio Ghibli and my favourite shows right now are Supernatural and Outlander. I am originally from Victoria, British Columbia and have also lived in Calgary, Alberta and St. John's, Newfoundland. I have a great love of the ocean and tall trees. I am also an animal lover - I have a rescue mixed-breed dog named Tifa. She is an excellent adventure companion.

I have predominantly British, Irish and Eastern European roots with some French/German, southern (Iberian) European and Scandinavian ancestry. The amount of travel I've done outside of North America is limited, and I'd love to know more about these places in particular (though all of them fascinate me and I can't wait to hear from you). :) Ireland and Japan are tops on my travel list and I sometimes fantasize about moving to New Zealand where social worker jobs are often posted.

Speaking of which, I currently work in healthcare across the lifespan and graduated with a Master of Social Work in June of 2020. My plan was always to travel after school was done, however unfortunately the timing hasn’t working out with Covid. I will travel via postcard for now. :)

I am happy to receive any and all post cards and learn more about you and where you come from. Tell me what makes you 'you', what do you love, what are you passionate about? What is your favourite memory, worst fear, biggest dream? Best hope, favourite story? How do you resist oppression and injustice? I want to hear anything and everything, any postcards will be wonderful however if you want to know what I'd be into, it would be cool for it to be unique to where you are in the world (a photo, the name of the place, a cultural custom etc.) I like maps as well, I like vintage. :) If it's near my birthday (August 29) birthday greetings would also be super cool.
