About Abakus...

Last update: MAY 23rd 2016

I received a wonderful card sent from Prague, Czech Republic during May(?) 2016, but without ID. Unfortunately I can't read the signature either. It shows the UNESCO site Holasovice. If the sender reads this, please contact me so I can register your card!

Hi world,

I am from Germany, but I often live abroad. Guess that comes as no surprise, since I studied humanitarian action (how to organize relief operations for refugees or in natural/man-made disasters). The last place I lived at was Okinawa, the southernmost part of Japan and it was amazing! Now I'm working at a refugee registration office in Munich and am already wondering where the next few years will land me!
In my free time, I like to collect stamps, read, drink tea with friends and practice martial arts. Lately I took up playing chess.

What postcards do I like to get?
Actually right now I love to receive letters - with lots of text and you are welcome to send one instead of a card ;-). But of course, this is a postcard project, and I'll be more than happy about cards, too. I'm especially interested in cards about something, that is special about your country: one that depicts traditional festivals or customs, beautiful landscapes, the way people live, ... It need not be the most well-known or popular aspect about your region, it could also be a card that shows something that you personally think is special about your country or that you like very much about it. A card with a typical recipe or a self-composed poem is appreciated, too. And if you are from any non-Christian region, I am also happy about cards related to those religions including Islamic calligraphy. But, if possible, I prefer single view cards.

Some ideas:
- world heritage sites
- flag cards
- map cards (non-touristy country maps)
- traditional everyday life
- from the US: national parks
- owls
- your country's traditions and customs, including religious customs
- deserts
- other beautiful nature scenery
- traditional arts
- steampunk
- anything else is welcome, too ;-)

I'd be happy if you'd write in both your mother tongue and English. If I understand your mother tongue (see languages above), there is no need for a translation, except perhaps with Arabic/Chinese.

Just tell me about you, your family, your country or region, ...

Also, I love to collect stamps, so if you want to make me really happy you could use commemorative ones for your postcard, instead of the standard ones. I'm also really happy you could send some stamps from your country (either unused or used, it doesn't matter).

日本の方は日本語で書いて下さい。良い練良い練習になります。

See you,
Karolin
