This picture makes me think of a day long ago when I was staying at a bed-and-breakfast in the north of England. I took the dog of the house (a beagle named Danny) in to town for a walk. Had to leave him tied up while I went in to a bookstore, and when I came out it was already raining. I had not brought an umbrella with me, so by the time we got home we were both soaked to the skin.The dogs in this drawing look forlorn and anxious, but at least they have each other to lean on and an umbrella to keep them more or less dry despite the torn panel. The fallen flower petals are a bit sad, but the red of the umbrella adds a note of cheer, or perhaps of romance, and it has a strong effect on the light.
