I'm surprised to see X-mas is celebrated on January 7. Is this really so? Why not on 25/26 December?

Yes, you read correctly. In Russia as in other countries provaslavnyh (Belarus, Ukraine) celebrate Christmas on January 7, while in Europe, Catholics and Protestants celebrate 24/25 December! Russia has used the Julian calendar.
