The "Lagoon of the Seven Cities“, is a lake situated in the crater of a dormant volcan at the Portuguese archipelago of the Azores.
The lake has a length of 4,35 square kilometres and consists of two lagoons – the Green Lagoon and the Blue Lagoon, that are connected by a narrow passage and crossed by a bridge that is the road that leads to the Seven Cities parish. The north-south maximum length of the lake is 4,2km with a width of 2km, and the lagoon has a maximum depth of 33 metres.
The Lagoa das Sete Cidades is deservedly one of the 7 Natural Wonders of Portugal.
When you visit it, do appreciate its beauty and do not forget that, according to the legend, the blue and green colours of those waters were formed by the tears shed by a couple in a misunderstood love…
