The concentrated power of nature.

A huge cloud of ash rises into the sky above the small town of Cesarò in Sicily. It eclipses the sun and turns day into night. The awe-inspiring natural spectacle is another act in a multi-day performance of Mount Etna presented by Europe's tallest and most active volcano in December 2015. After a series of earthquakes and eruptions, a column of ash, gases and rock particles formed above the crater and rose more than 12 kilometers into the Earth's atmosphere. At the upper edge it spread out in all directions in the form of a mushroom head before it collapsed and a rain of ash fell on the surrounding area.
