Hi Natalia~ Glad to know you've got the card~ The woman on the card named Qin Xianglian, came from Qing Dynasty and the story was between her and her husband Chen Shimei. She worked really hard in home to support her husband, who studied in Beijing for the Imperial Examination. However after getting the Number One Scholar, Chen was chosen by emperor to marry the princess and he didn’t refuse the offer for the fame and wealth. Qin was so sad that decided to look for her husband in Beijing after hearing from Chen.

In Beijing, she experienced a lot of humiliation, for nobody believed that she was the original wife of the existing emperor's son-in-law. However she finally met an honest and upright official, who was redressed the scales for her and sentenced Chen to death in spite of the imperial power. Both the story and the picture on the card are according to the Beijing opera. But recent study shows that maybe the whole story was false. Chen was a very good officer and the story was made up by people who were refused by Chen for the illegal transactions.
