As yachting was now a popular pastime, massive clubhouses were built throughout the North Shore. Meals and alcohol were served, and they became social as well as sailing clubs.
Running contrary to this trend, the founders of the Manchester Yacht Club built a modest structure in 1892 to keep the focus on sailing as its primary purpose. (Courtesy Manchester Historical Society.)
