About ravenbat...
I am a 40 year old woman and almost totally housebound due to a health condition. I'm able to get out more when the weather is good (as in when there isn't a lot of snow), but tend to stay close to home.
I live in the northern part of the lower peninsula of the state of Michigan; it's a beautiful area. I know the map says I'm in Alpena, but I'm not. If you move the map to the West, you'll see where it says Indian River, that is where I live. Alpena was just the nearest place I could pick for my profile.
One of my favorite things to do is reading. Lately I read more of the urban fantasy or paranormal type books more than anything else, but I do enjoy a good suspense book or some sci-fi/fantasy. I don't watch much television, but do enjoy movies - mostly comedies though I have a love for old black and white movies. Especially old Cary Grant movies.
Music is another of my favorite things, I like just about most genres of music; with a few exceptions. I'm just as apt to be listening to some old Big Band artist as I am to something that is popular now.
Other things that I like are butterflies, cats, bats (yes, the winged mammal), penguins, sunrise/sunset photos, full moons, interesting looking buildings, bridges, teacups/teapots, hello kitty, brush painting/artwork, baby animals and flowers.
I would love postcards of places where you are from, but I'll happily accept any card you send. It's the thought after all. I've recently discovered the postcards and stamps of the Olympic mascots from Beijing and Vancouver. They are so very cute and if you happen to have these (or any Olympic mascots from other years) postcards or stamps, I'd love to receive them. I've also discovered the Moomin since joining Postcrossing and those cards and stamps will be happily welcomed too. I'd rather not receive ad cards, but if that's all you have... send it on.
If you are at a loss for what to write on the postcard you can always ...
Tell me about your day
What it's like in the place you live
If you have pets
Share a recipe
Tell me a joke
What music, movies or books that you enjoy
Tell me how you discovered Postcrossing
After listening to me talk about postcards for months, I've had a few friends (5 people so far) join, along with my kid sister (user name: Blazey) - I'm trying to talk more people into joining, because there should be more postcards traveling the world!
I prefer my cards written on and stamped, not in an envelope. Even if the post office manages to mangle them a bit, I think it adds character to the cards.
I register my cards the day I receive them. If I haven't registered your card, then I haven't received it yet.
