About Irja...

Updated in Jan 2016

I'm a red-haired woman, daughter, sister, wife of one, mother of one, very lucky and proud grandmother of two (grandchildren are one of the pleasures of life), cousin of many and real friend of someones. I'm a sociologist. I have worked in the field of university (last 12 years at Open Univ., student counselling). I retired in Nov. 2011. I believe in lifelong learning and education as the most important step to equality between women and men.

My hobbies are: I do voluntary work at Women's Bank. All kind of handicrafts. Happiness is warm wool socks and a good book. And I like recycling and to go to second hand shops.

What is Women's Bank? Finnish women collect money for Women's Bank to create education and jobs for women living in developing countries. We want to do our bit to provide a better future for those less fortunate. More: http://www.naistenpankki.fi/en/

I'm living with my husband in eastern Finland. This is a nice area to live, we have pure, crystal clear water and clean air.
I'm an outdoor person, love walking in forests picking up mushrooms and berries or just sitting by the lake doing nothing, just listening to winds whistling or looking at the sunsets. I rather use bike than a car. My bike is black, made in Finland and her name is Aino.

I really appreciate full written postcards. I would love to hear from you. The more personal the better. I think that the written side of a postcard is at least as important as the picture.
I do approciate cards with:
- children, women, mothers/fathers, grandmothers/-fathers
- Guardian Angel
- bikes
- figure skating related cards
- funny cards with nuns
- royal families, Diana, Prince William and Kate, Viktoria and Daniel, the royal wedding in Sweden on 19 June 2010 postcards and stamps etc.
- Ja vihjeeksi suomalaisille, että erityisen iloinen olen Martta Wendelinin, Rudolf Koivun, Inge Löökin ja Kaj Stenvallin ihanista korteista.

I dont't collect, but do enjoy nice stamps. If in your country is a stamp with woman/child I would be very happy for that.

I love choosing postcards. I have a nice collection hundreds of postcards as I am buying them all the time. I enjoy trying to get the right card and stamp for the right person. It makes me very happy when I have sent a postcard to someone, and it'll be a fave.
I generally scan my outgoing cards and upload the images before sending.

I'll register your postcard at same day as I had the lucky chance to recive it in my mailbox. You can trust on your card will be in loving hands!
If you sent me a postcard and I don't register it, let me know, please.

My fave phrase is 'Carpe diem'. If you have a favourite aphorism or quote, it would be very nice if you wrote it on the card.

Postcrossing sounds like a great way to communicate and to spread joy and harmony. Beauty and kindness are really univeral.

Kiitos - Thank you for your interest
