My profile has been inactive for quite a while. Here is the story behind my decision to bring it back to life.

I have a friend who I love very much.
We both work at a charity for children, me as a permanent staff, he as a volunteer.
In exactly a year from now he will be leaving Ukraine to go home to the USA or wherever else the life takes him.

As it often happens, volunteers are people who have not had the easiest of lives and who are willing to help others while not always being able to help themselves. He once told me that he will never be able to have a successful relationship or a deep emotional connection with another person because his childhood that he basically spent all on his own, with no support, affection or protection from any adult, made him a broaken and selfish person. At the same time, when he does open up to me, I can see something completely different, a human being that is more capable of love and trust, compassion and empathy than he thinks.

Therefore, I have decided to aks you, guys, if you could send me postcards with the words of support or, if you are willing to, your own stories. I want to tell him that people are able to recover from nearly all kinds of emotional and psychological trauma and there is no reason for him to give up on himself like that, but it seems that my words or deeds are not enough anymore. Or perhaps I just don't have the right thing to say yet.

I will give all the postcards to my friend on the day of his departure from Ukraine as a farewell gift.
