Blog > January Writing Prompt: Your typical day

Happy New Year! May it be a brilliant one!

Last month we invited everyone to write about a famous food from your region in the postcards you were sending out. So… what new delicacies did you learn about? 😋 Are you going to give them a try?

(For those that are new to them, the writing prompts are an ongoing experiment that invites postcrossers to write about a different topic on their postcard’s messages every month. These are just suggestions though — if you already know what you want to write about, or the recipient gives you some pointers, that’s great too!)

This month’s writing prompt was suggested by Jetske. Here it goes:

In January, write about a typical day in your life.

Sounds simple enough, right? But wouldn’t it be interesting to know how your typical day differs from someone else’s across the world?

For instance, my commute is probably the shortest out there, as I just work from our home office on my laptop all day (not in pijamas though!). A typical day around here is filled with emails, posts, research and coffee… as well as occasional visits from the neighbourhood’s cats! 🐈

What about you? What does your typical day look like? Are you strict about schedules or tend to go with the flow? Do you have a long commute? And do you interact with a lot of other people (or cats)?

You can choose to give the recipient of your postcard a broad overview of your days, or focus on something specific if you feel that would be more relevant. Whichever approach you choose, I’m sure it’ll be interesting to read about.

Have a good month, filled with lovely postcards!

I interact with dogs and cats all day as I am a veterinarian! :-)
Question - how could we join in the polls done here on PC?
Happy new year!

My days are inconsistent as I’m retired. I certainly have no commute! I'm sure I can find something about my days to write in a postcard, though. I like the prompt.

I am inconsistent as I am retired. I do my household chores, music, photos, quilting, and gardening and pet my 2 big dogs and 2 cats. I talk to friends and of course love to do postcrossing which sometimes takes a lot of time because I scan in my sent postcards and received postcards too. Happy New Year!

That is a really fun idea, it is cool because then you will be able to see the typical days of people in other countries.

Wow,this idea is really good, share the typical day can also promote the communications between two different cultures!

I have a boring life so there would not be much to write, but I would love to read how others spend their typical days.

Its summertime here in New Zealand and I'm on an extended holiday until April 30. So my days are filled with walks in the mountains and beaches, reading, Netflix, and road trips. Of course I'm checking my mailbox for new postcards and sending postcards to my fellow post-crossers when I venture into town.

Happy holidays to everyone!
All students (and me too) have a relax now. We do a lot of things we like! For example, I like reading and on holidays I have time to do this.
P.S. I'm so sad that a lot of Ukrainian postcrossers don't do postcrossing now. Stamps have risen in price more than 2 times and many people can not afford it.

Happy holidays!
In Finland we go back to school some years on 2nd of January. This year the holiday ended on 4th January, so it not a long break from school is it? My typical day is filled with schedules and study. I would like to wish you all happy year 2018, and be safe!

Hello! I think it,s a great idea.I start my days by making iced tea, and coffee, getting the ice cubes out of the trays and into the plastic ice holder. Then I like to write letters or postcards first thing whatever time I get up, as I am in the mood to write first thing, and especially on a sunny day. I have to have lots of lamps and sunlight to see well. There,s the start of my day, and load the washing machine and empty trashcans. The bad thing is my mind tries to do it all at once!!!!! Sadiebk
