hello friends!
my name is holly and i am new to postcrossing. i was a special education teacher for 26 years in indianapolis, indiana. in 2008 i became very ill and have had many surgeries and have been in the hospital many, many times. due to my conditon, i spend almost all of my time at home in my room. i now live in florida with my elderly parents. i have recently been looking for ways to connect with others and found postcrossing. what a great way to meet new people and get to know others from so many different places right from my room. i am so happy to get to know you and learn about you and your life.

i enjoy art and spend a lot of my time drawing. i like to use mixed media (markers, colored pencils, watercolors, inks and many other materials). i draw mostly whimsical people, animals and things from nature. i have also had several of my pieces of art for sale in a shop near my home. it is such a thrill when someone chooses one of my paintings to place in their home! mostly, though i draw because i love it.

another one of my hobbies is collecting all kinds of stationary and spending time looking at different types of papers, envelopes, stamps, washi tapes and much, much more. i have decided to get back in to “snail mail” because i think it is a wonderful, personal way to keep in touch with friends and family. i also like to write to people i meet online in different groups. so far i have one pen pal who lives in australia. going to the mailbox and finding happy mail is the highlight of my day.

i like to read and learn about all kinds of things. some of them are nature, art, decorating, food and recipes, science, other countries and people. i love to take notes about the topics i am currently reading about. i read articles from the internet as well as those in print. a lot of the time i listen to my books by suscribing to “audible”. i like to listen while i am working around the house, making my art and also when i am driving if i am able to leave the house during the day.

i also enjoy writing and keeping journals. sometimes i write poetry and might even work on a book someday. i do several writing challenges every year.
