About J.D....

My apologies to anyone who has sent me a card in the past few months that hasn't been registered. I have been very ill and am still in the process of going through mail. I will register your cards as soon as possible! Thank you for your patience.

I'm a 48-year-old spinster with four rescued cats. I love to travel (anywhere), read (anything), do art and crafts (paper arts, sewing, lots more), sing karaoke, and cook and eat international food.

I live in world-famous Las Vegas, Nevada, but I'm originally from the state of Alabama, and I lived in the Washington, D.C. area for many years. I work as a copyright and trademark lawyer. I have visited France (haute-Savoie and Paris), Switzerland (Genève, Zürich), England (London and the Surrey suburbs), Jamaica (Kingston, the north shore), Mexico (Ciudad Juárez), Singapore, Malta (Valletta and environs), the Netherlands (Amsterdam), Bulgaria (Sofia), Romania (Bucuresti), Sweden (Stockholm), Bolivia (La Paz), Germany (Stuttgart, München), and most recently Belgium (Bruxelles) and Luxembourg, which isn't nearly enough of the world yet! I'm also very interested in international foodways and cuisine--not only the different dishes people eat across the world, but the basic ingredients they use and the agricultural and production methods associated with those ingredients. But I also like fashion and indie music so I promise I'm not as much of a geek as I sound like!

I enjoy writing to female snail-mail penfriends, so let me know if you might be interested in further correspondence. I love all kinds of postcards, but especially ad-cards/freecards--I know that's not very common, but I think they're really interesting little slices of culture and of colloquial language. I like cards that are printed in your language/alphabet if you'll write the English translation for me. (Also note that I'm Jewish--I'll never complain about receiving a Christmas or Easter holiday card if that's what you choose to send me [or a holiday card for any other religion or nationality] but you might consider choosing something else for me at those times of year...)

If you are a student of English, I was a writer and editor for many years, and so if you'd like me to correct any mistakes you make, please let me know and I'm happy to do that. I'll even rewrite your message in idiomatic American English that people from different parts of the U.S. would use! I am really fascinated by colloquial linguistics and will go on and on about the subject for as long as someone will listen to me, so please feel free to ask me any questions you have about American usage and grammar.
