About Ashik...

Hi, I am Ashik, an author and filmmaker from India.

I used to work as a Software Engineer with an MNC in Mumbai. By degree, I am an Engineer. But I always knew I had a thing for writing and arts. So I quit the job in 2015 and went soul searching across the four corners of India. I came back to Kerala in 2016 deciding to pursue a career as a scriptwriter, and slowly make my own films in some 10 years' time.

To my surprise, within five years, I published three books, made ten short films, assisted two feature films and made my debut feature film, the first ever from Kerala to be shot entirely on an iPhone. This journey to me has been my biggest achievement so far. My aim now is to make my second feature film, release it in theatres and establish my career as a filmmaker here. Currently writing that story.

One subject I can talk about for hours is films and stories. I love good stories, books, and movies in all languages. If you have a favourite film from your place, name it. I'll watch it.

The state I belong to is Kerala, popularly known as "God's Own Country" for its immense greenery and natural beauty. One of the top 50 lifetime destinations according to National Geographic.

It was on the shores of Kerala that Europeans first landed in India for trade back in 1498. This is the place where Christianity and Islam first entered India. Kerala still has the very first churches (52 AD) and mosques (630 AD) ever to be built in India. I love this place and believe it to be a melting pot of cultures and religions.

I am currently learning Norwegian on Duolingo. Norway is one of my travel-to-destinations.

I grew up in the country with the second largest population. And there, I spent nearly my whole life in a state with the densest population. So for me, Norway is the exact opposite, but just as beautiful as Kerala. The itch to find balance by going to the opposite is what makes Norway fascinating for me.

Being a creative person, I crave new experiences. I hope to get to know of cultures that I do not know of, the arts and films there, what people love about their place, what makes it unique for them, and so on.

Perhaps it will even become a new destination that I might some day travel to. That is the reason why I am here exploring Postcrossing. And also for the joy of receiving handwritten letters. Who can say no to that in this day and age!
