About Arianne...

I love the ritual of finding the perfect postcard for someone after reading their profile. For myself, I tend to prefer postcards which are unique-- and especially cards which show something about you. The only postcards that I'm not too fond of are the touristy/ multiview variety, but please don't worry if this is your only option. What you write on it is what makes it special! I find the small details of life to be endlessly fascinating, and I adore hearing about them.

I'm a nursing student with an undergraduate background in anthropology, gender studies and modern history. I love art (especially photography), animals and spending time in my garden.

** Postcards that I would love to receive:

Nurses (any era, setting or gender, vintage or new)

Badgers

Bizarre or strange postcards

Old ad campaigns, vintage film publicity shots, tourism posters (I especially love old airline advertisements such as http://goo.gl/MShB4v or http://goo.gl/ktbZdW)

Vintage Tarot or playing cards (please feel free to send these in place of a postcard, if this is easier for you; otherwise one taped to the back of a postcard would make my day!)

Pin up art

Letterboxes/ postboxes

Typewriters

Botanical drawings (example: http://goo.gl/B50h46)

Photographs of women

Film stars of the 1920s-40s

Pharmacology (pills, chemistry, history of medicines, medication, etc)

Constructivism: propaganda art commonly seen in the former USSR, North Korean or certain eras of Chinese government (example: http://goo.gl/tmQE8l)

Infographs (example: http://goo.gl/VbTbr0)

Abandoned places (example: http://goo.gl/nrSHtb)

Black & white images

Cats, Pugs or German Shepherd dogs

Theotokos Prayer Cards (especially Umyagchenie Zlykh Serdets or икона умягчение злых сердец)

Maps

Anatomy, Physiology, the Human Body

I love Orthodox or Catholic prayer cards showing female saints. If sending one of these isn't too much trouble for you, I would love it so much! (example: http://goo.gl/fL73fe)

Schematics

Strange old cars or mechanical inventions

Typography (interesting letters, example: http://goo.gl/KmFCNU)

Poppy or Protea

Beautiful embroidery

Knitting

Images of female spirituality (Buddhist nuns, Eastern Orthodox Saints, Goddesses from any tradition, example: http://goo.gl/jraloa)

Finches and crows/ ravens

Neon signs

Cemeteries

Strange or retro clothing fashions

Anything in poor taste is welcome! Maybe you have a card in your collection that you are afraid to send to anyone else? I would love to receive it. Please don't be afraid. :)

I also love seeing interesting postage stamps. I always send a collection on my outgoing postcards, matched to what I think the receiver might like: I see this as a tiny traveling art gallery

** I would love to hear about:

The most beautiful thing that you've seen today

A story about one of your pets. I've received several wonderful cards written from the perspective of pets, which always makes me smile
