Hello Folks,

My name is Michael. I am an artist, writer, and scientist; longtime environmentalist; a librarian of sorts; and politically active. My hometown is permanent host to the Art Deco ocean liner Queen Mary, a truly spectacular sight. Our <Aquarium of the Pacific> is world-class. I live Downtown, about a mile from them and the major Long Beach/Los Angeles sea port complex which is enormous, one of the largest in the world. Consequently, I don't swim in the ocean nearby although there are many activities on shore. Luckily, I also live near a lengthy and unspoiled state beach, perfect for surfing, just a bus ride seven miles south of me.

I have many interests, too numerous to list here. My longest term hobby is as a deltiologist (postcard collector). I received my first postcard, quite a few years ago, from my eighth grade teacher: it was from Edinburgh Castle in Scotland. I then grew quite interested in collecting cards, not just for their images, but also for their unique messages and stamps, and for the welcome surprise in my mailbox.

Don't know what to write? How about your favorite five words (with translations)? Your favorite artist? author? composer? superhero? cartoon? What is the first music album that changed your life? How about drawing a caricature of yourself? (that would be great!) Etc, etc.

I will be thrilled with _any_ postcard you send but here are my especial interests:

>GRAVEYARDS (grave markers, cenotaphs, memorials, funerary and the like)

>ANCIENT and MODERN RUINS (such as abandoned buildings or collapsed bridges)

>DONKEYS, COWS, PIGS

>CATS (domestic cats and big cats)

>BEACHES

>RISQUE and NUDES (particularly men)

>ROCK 'N' ROLL

>SPACE EXPLORATION

>AMUSEMENT PARKS

>ZANY, OUTRAGEOUS, CREEPY, BAD TASTE (kitsch)

>TOWN, CITY, COUNTRY, SCENIC views

>FREE, AD cards (not English)

>DIY (do it yourself) handmade, cut up boxes, bizarre, etc

>ANYTHING you have laying around (surprise me!)

In other words, if you can put a stamp on it, send it along. Just be sure it can withstand the rigors of international mail.
