Hello World!

I'm Flic, I'm 28 and I'm Scottish. I live in Edinburgh, which is a beautiful city, and I've been here for almost 10 years. I am not very into Scottish traditional culture though - I don't like whiskey, or haggis, or bag pipes! I haven't eaten a deep-fried Mars bar either... Which is probably for the best. I do have red hair though :)

I am a botanist and ecologist and have travelled to quite a few countries (from various locations in Europe - Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, Ireland - to more far-flung countries like Iraq, Tajikistan, UAE, Belize etc) in the last few years to study plants and meet colleagues. I jokingly call myself an "international botanist" since it sounds like I'm James Bond, but I do feel like have the coolest job in the world!

I always send postcards home when I'm away, and would love to send more and receive more from all over the world! I work mainly in Middle Eastern and Central Asian countries - the landscapes are so beautiful, and the plants are amazing!

I learned "ein bisschen Deutsch" at school and would be really happy to have German-speaking (and writing!) postcrosses, but I have forgotten a lot of grammar, so perhaps keep it simple if writing in German :D I do love languages, and I always try to learn a little from where I visit - my last trip was to the Czech Republic, so "Ahoj" to any Czechs! Please tell me how to say "hello" in your language, and any others you know.

As you can imagine, as a botanist, I love plants, but I also enjoy nature and the outdoors generally. I am learning bushcraft (like making shelter and lighting fires), but I am also very nerdy - I play pencil and paper RPGs (like D&D), and enjoy programming and working with data. I love watching films (especially really bad quality horror films, they're unintentionally brilliant!) and tv series, and relaxing with books. I have also recently gotten into comic books, and have a tattoo from the comic "Bitch Planet" - I am #noncompliant. ^_^
