I am a 6th grade (11 - 12 year olds) teacher in Southern California, United States. Our classroom is starting Postcrossing as part of social studies and language arts units.

My students are from a very low socioeconomic area, in which poverty and crime occur at a high rate in the not so beautiful high desert. The community is not the typical stereotype of a California city, we are hours from the ocean or any natural water sources. Our area is covered in sand, dirt, and the oh so beautiful Joshua Tree.

My students would have a special interest in the books being read by others, TV shows, favorite movies, etc. My class is particularly fond of the book Wonder, by R.J. Palacio.

The class would also like to know what others/preteens do for fun in your area or country. They hang-out, use social media (Instagram), and play video games.

Areas of particular interest include the areas we study in social studies. The ancient monuments and structures of Egypt, China, Israel, Greece, and Rome. Though we would ideally collect postcards from all the countries around the world.
