"Washington
Ice-clad Mount Baker towers over the northern Cascades of Washington State. Second only to Mount Rainier as the most heavily glaciated park in the range, this white blanket persists year-round, and thus, little is known of the mountain's geologic nature or age. Though a major eruption has not occurred since 1843, reports of steam activity have been observed as recently as 1976. Located just 31 miles east of Bellingham, Mount Baker's ominous presence characterizes the beauty of the northwest region.
