In one of the livelier panels in the series, Lawrence depicts a group of migrants in a train car, pointing out the booming steel town of Pittsburgh out the window. The figures, comprised of men, women and children who appear to be animatedly discussing their destination. The industry of Pittsburgh promised jobs, but the picnic basket meal that the family in the train car is eating implies they were subject to the segregation of the North and were not permitted to enter the dining car of the train, thus illustrating the hardship faced as well.
