This is just an outstanding card; I would love to know its history. Thank you Alexandra for uploading it.

This elderly lady is really cleaning rugs in the snow. This mode of cleaning was very popular, especially before the coming of dry-cleaners. But even in my childhood, every winter my father and I, we cleaned our rugs by snow, it was very funny, like a game for kids. Now it's quite rare, especially in big cities. But few weeks ago, I saw an elderly lady doing the same in the yard of our appartement block :) If I remember correctly, this postcard called "Thursday", there's a custom to do a big cleaning up on Maundy Thursday (Thursday before Еaster). And if Easter in March or even April, in some Russian regions it could be still cold. |
