Queen Isabella I of Castile and King Ferdinand II of Aragon agreed to sponsor a journey west and after a stop for provisions in the Canary Islands the Carrack Santa Maria with two Caravels, the Pinta and the Nina sailed five weeks and first landed on Guanahani on 12 October 1492. The Admiral of the Ocean Sea Christophorus Columbus and his two pilots the Pinzon brothers made their historic discovery voyage. |
