We were very excited to see that Postcrossing wrote an article about our little group on their blog back in April 2019. If you are interested, please look it up https://www.postcrossing.com/blog/2019/04/12/healing-with-postcards .We are a group of clients of Brain Trust Canada who want to explore Postcrossing. We have all had some type of Brain Injury from a stroke, tumor, accident and many other situations. We plan on getting together once a month to write our cards, read the profiles of the card recipient, learn about the places the cards are going to and help improve our basic skills of reading and writing.
Brain Trust Canada began as a small group of people who recognized a need for greater support and resources for those affected by brain injury. The initial group included individuals with brain injury, families of people living with brain injury, stakeholders with care homes, an occupational therapist, and a personal injury lawyer.
In 1986, this group incorporated as the North & South Okanagan Head Injury Society. Their intention was largely twofold:
to start formal support groups, and
to create more supportive housing/group homes.
Over time the Society grew and evolved, changing its name to the Central Okanagan Brain Injury Society before finally becoming Brain Trust Canada Association.
