# 509 Old Faithful is the best known geyser in the world. The Washburn Party discovered it in 1870. They named it Old Faithful, because of its height , interval and duration. During its 2-5 minute eruptions. Old Faithful reaches an average height of 130 feet and discharges up to 7,500 gallons of water.
