The large statue is the Cristo Redentor (Portuguese), or Christ the Redeemer (English). It stands 98 feet (30 meters) tall, with its arms stretching 92 ft (28 meters) wide, while standing on a 26 ft (8 meters) pedestal. Built between 1922 and 1931, this statue was the tallest Art Deco statue in the world until 2010. Isn't that just amazing?! :) |
