The writing prompts invite postcrossers to write about a different topic on their postcards’ messages every month. These are just suggestions though — if you already know what you want to write about, or the recipient gives you some pointers, that’s great too!
August has snuck up on me this year, but it’s actually my birthday month! Which means I’m hoping to get good and spoilt, of course, and that will hopefully include some chocolate and sweets. Which inspired me to pick this month’s prompt: maybe you can all give me some ideas about what to try!

I thought this would be an easy way to answer, but hmmm, what’s my favourite?! I guess at the moment it’s a ridiculously sweet little bar my dad started buying for me: the McVitie’s Gold Bar. They have a biscuit centre, covered in a caramel-flavour coating. They really are very sweet, but I like that, and I especially enjoy how crunchy the biscuit part is.
For a slightly more traditional British sweet, well, I’d have to go with the aniseed flavour chewy sweets called Black Jacks, and the related fruit-flavoured Fruit Salads. I don’t get them a lot, because it’s not very professional to go around with my tongue stained black… but sometimes, as a little pick-me-up!
What about you? What’s your favourite treat? Is it something global, or a local secret? We’d love to hear from you in the comments here, and if you’re stumped for something to write a postcard, you can use this as a prompt!

Of course Swiss Chocolate!! ;-)
Hard to choose between Danisa Butter Cookies and tofu pudding, so I nominate the two.
Millet biscuits are enough to satisfy me (*^^*)
Twisted pastry sticks with milk chocolate coating. I don't know whether it is okay to write the company's name or not (copyright), so I'll leave it at that.
Violet Crumble; stick-to-your-teeth yumminess!
Trekdrop. A stretchy, sweet licorice that is unfortunately no longer produced 😔
Hollandse stroopwafels blijven onweerstaanbaar lekker
Dark chocolate % 80 is the best
I haven’t heard of most of the candy, but they do sound good. I think I’ve tried a Violet Crumble. My favorite is Milk chocolate, Swiss/European candy is the best, Lindt etc. I grew up with my dad buying Cadbury, good. American Hershey chocolate is bad, but our Reese’s peanut butter cups are good. German Gummy Bears w/natural coloring, & English Licorice Scotty dogs are favorites
My favourite candy bar is "Crunchie" from Cadbury: honeycomb toffee coated with chocolate. Yummy!
I love European style licorice
Absolutely Haribo Goldbears gummy candy, my favorite as a child, still love it now 😋😍
cioccolato fondente all'80%. E' davvero irresistibile!
Japanese Kit Kats, esp the dark chocolate ones!!
Chokotoff
My all time favourite treat in the summertime is ice cream in a cone. Although I enjoy most flavours, "butterscotch" is usually my first choice.
I looove dark chocolate!
As a child I liked the bright colored Chiclets gum. They aren't made anymore but should be!!!
I'm loving all these posts - and getting hungry!
I recently went back to a childhood favorite that my dad loved - Mallow Cups! It's a chocolate cup with a marshmallow coconut filling. I just found a bag of mini ones in the supermarket, and I think they may be gone this weekend! For US Postcrossers - have you heard of these or are they just a New England thing?
Dried kelp snack (osyaburi konbu) is a popular snack in Japan.
I love it very much.
However, be careful not to overeat, as it will cause stomach bloating.
I eat an insanely delicious chocolate spread—made with organic ingredients, no palm oil, and absolutely no sugar. Pure bliss in every spoonful
I love the sea salt dark chocolate, melts in your mouth, so good ;)
i love the classic Quality Street :)
Cadbury’s chocolate! :)
Lindt (Swiss, produce in Germany), Fazer (Finland), Marabou (Sweden) and Leonidas (Belgium). All are very good.
Super Dickmann´s - German´s most popular foam kisses. Just yummi:-)
My favorite snacks are “Kappa Ebisen” from the Japanese snack company Calbee, and “Kinoko no Yama” from Meiji Co., Ltd.! There’s actually a rival snack to Kinoko no Yama called “Takenoko no Sato,” and fans are divided into Kinoko and Takenoko factions, waging a heated battle day and night.
Puddingbroodjes, a small bread filled with a yellow vanille cream, powdersugared
My favorite is a good old plain chocolate Hershey bar.
Oh I wish I could try one of your Black Jacks! Because my favorite is All Sorts licorice candies. My Grandma loved them, but her top favorites were black licorice pipes and horehounds.
Jerky! Definitely jerky! I'm not sweet tooth.
But when it comes to dessert, I do like Pavlova — light, fruity, and not overly sweet.
And now that I think about it, a good dark chocolate isn't the worst choice either.
Since I've reduced consuming sugar in January I lost interest in sweets. I sometimes eat a piece of cake but it's not that satisfying as it used to be. I now prefer fruits...
Black licorice! for sure..... I like the Brussel Mannekes... mmmmmm
I am a chocolate addict and almost everything goes: white, milk, dark (up to 80 %) ... My favourite chocolate manufacturers are Fazer and Marabou, also Ritter Sport, Milka, and Lindlt are good.
Nothing beats Haribo’s gummy bears!
A PayDay candy bar, always makes me smile.
I love See's Butterscotch Squares. Expensive but so worth it!
See's Butterscotch Squares are my favorite too!
Reading these comments is making me so hungry... 🤤 I shall make a list of all these sweets to try in different countries!
My all-time favorite is Haribo Pico-Balla! I cannot get enough and I'm thankful that my local World Market store carries it or else I'd have to ask my German friends to mail it to me!
